Liza DiGaetano is the founder of Garage Yoga, a traditional Ashtanga Yoga Mysore program in San Diego, California.
Liza practices and teaches the traditional method of Ashtanga Yoga as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, the founder of the Ashtanga Yoga practice and his grandson, R. Sharath Jois. Liza travels annually to Mysore, India to study with R. Sharath Jois at The Sri K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute (KPJAYI). After many years of dedicated practice and trips to Mysore, she earned a level 2 Authorization from the source of Ashtanga Yoga, allowing her to officially teach the traditional Ashtanga method.
Less traditionally, Liza has been a student and member of Edward Clark’s Tripsichore Yoga Theatre, a London-based performance company known as the “Cirque de Soleil” of Yoga. Liza has also extensively studied the sciences complementary to physical yoga, including Ayurveda with Dr. Madan Kumar MD, (Professor at Pankaja Kasthuri Ayurveda Medical College) in Thrivandrum, India and Ayurvedic pulse diagnosis with Dr. Talveen Krishna (founder of IVAC Ayurveda Center) in Mysore, India.
Liza has over 15 years of experience teaching yoga and movement and is an advanced Ashtanga Yoga practitioner. She teaches retreats and workshops throughout the United States and abroad. Liza encourages her students to work hard while reminding them not to take themselves too seriously. She believes that the physical practice of Ashtanga Yoga allows us to become better humans in the world. The method becomes our path to becoming more compassionate, happy, resilient, present and ultimately, more evolved beings on the physical, mental and spiritual plane.
