She has been practicing and teaching the traditional method of Ashtanga Yoga as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, the founder of the Ashtanga Yoga practice and his grandson, R. Sharath Jois for over 15 years. Her dedication to the Ashtanga Yoga practice began in 2005 with senior teacher, Tim Miller. Since 2011 Liza has traveled annually to Mysore, India to study with her teacher, R. Sharath Jois, at The Sri K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute (KPJAYI). In 2014, after many years of dedicated practice and trips to Mysore, she was blessed by Sharath with KPJAYI Level 2 Authorization, allowing her to officially teach the traditional Ashtanga Yoga Mysore method.
Less traditionally, Liza has been a student and member of Edward Clark’s Tripsichore Yoga Theatre, a London-based performance company known as the “Cirque de Soleil” of Yoga. Liza has also extensively studied Ayurveda, the ancient science of self healing, with Dr. Madan Kumar MD, (Professor at Pankaja Kasthuri Ayurveda Medical College) in Thrivandrum, India and with Dr. Talveen Krishna (founder of IVAC Ayurveda Center) in Mysore, India. Liza actively studies energetic healing and plant medicine. She completed Jonathan Goldman’s 2 year Gift Of The Body Healer Training in 2016 at the Essential Light Institute in Bend, Oregon.
Liza is a mother of a beautiful child and hopes to inspire and provide support for women who wish to continue their practice throughout pregnancy and motherhood. Liza practiced daily throughout her pregnancy and very shortly after her enlightening home birth. Her first hand experience of practice during pregnancy and post-partum in addition to teaching many women throughout this process allows her to be an highly experienced, compassionate guide during the transition from maiden to mother. Liza strives to empower mothers through the Ashtanga Yoga practice demonstrating how powerful it can be in healing and restoring balance in the mind, body and spirit during pregnancy and motherhood.
Liza has a deep love for the traditional Ashtanga Yoga Mysore practice and teaches to ignite that love in her students. She believes that the physical practice of Ashtanga Yoga allows us to become better humans in the world. The method becomes our path to becoming more compassionate, happy, resilient, present and ultimately, more evolved beings on the physical, mental and spiritual plane.
